Removing Unneeded Inaccessible Lantronix Virtual Com Ports in the CPR and SCPR and Uninstalling the CPR and SCPR

I'm having a hard time getting the Lantronix CPR or the SCPR to uninstall.  Also, there are Com ports listed as Inaccessable in the CPR, and I know that they should be available for use as virtual Com ports.  What can I do?

In this FAQ "CPR" will refer to the 4.x Com Port Redirector, the Secure Com Port Redirector (SCPR) and/or the Generic Com Port Redirector (GCPR).

Ports can be marked Inaccessable if the Lantronix CPR application was uninstalled without deleting the virtual Com port(s) that were created with it. This causes the vcom port registry entries to be 'orphaned' in the OS's registry and no longer accessible by any subsequent installation of CPR or other application that use com ports. Other applications may also leave registry entries that cause a Com port to be marked Inaccessable.

To avoid this, delete the virtual com ports that were created with the currently running version of CPR prior to uninstalling the application. This way, the vcom ports' registry entries are properly deleted by the application that created them. Most of the time, the user may reinstall the same CPR version and use it to uninstall the unneeded vcom ports. However, sometimes this does not work, especially if the registry entries were caused by a different application.

It's also possible that the standard Unistall for the CPR will fail to completely uninstall the application.

The utility cprclean.exe completely uninstalls CPR from the PC's OS. It removes all registry entries, directories, subdirectories and files associated to Lantronix (S)CPR. All traces of the application having been installed are completely erased.

CprClean can be used to uninstall CPR applications whose uninstall function no longer works This 'deep clean' application uninstall action is what removes the inaccessible virtual com ports.

Once CprClean has been run the CPR will need to be re-iinstalled.

CprClean is available as an attachment at the end of this FAQ under the heading "File Attachments".

See the file ReadMe.txt, also attached, for usage instructions.
