Printing from a Mac running OS X 10.9 or higher

Since upgrading OS X on my Mac I can no longer print to printers being served by the xPrintServer. What can I do?

Starting with Mavericks (OS X 10.9) the procedure to print from OS X changed. Apple changed something in AirPrint in both iOS 7 and MacOS 10.9.
As the xPrintServer is designed for iOS devices, we addressed the change in our firmware to fix the iOS 7 issue.

In previous versions of OS X AirPrint from MacOS worked, even though it is not explicitly supported on iOS xPrintServers. Whatever Apple changed in iOS 7, it is not the same thing they changed in MacOS. There are no plans to change the firmware on the iOS xPrintServers for use with Mac OS X.

The preferred workaround for MacOS, is to use the printer manufacturer's drivers instead of AirPrint when printing from MacOS.

First, go to the printer manufacturer's web site and download the MacOS 10.9 print software, if available.

Once installed:

* Go to System Preferences>Printers & Scanners:

* Click on the +

* In the dropdown, there will be a list of Bonjour Printers. Ignore it and click on the IP icon:

* Type in the IP address or DNS host name of your printer and choose a protocol as shown above. In our experience the Name, Location and Use will be set automatically. At this point the xPrintServer is out of the picture. Please see Apple's documentation for Yosemite for more information on these settings.
We've found that most current printers listen on port 9100 for a TCP socket connection. In our experience this is the most reliable method to print to a network printer.
* Click the Add button in the lower right corner.
* You should now be able to print to the printer from your Mac.
