Restoring the MAC-address of a Xport

The MAC address on an XPort-01.03/04/05 seems to be corrupted, how can I restore the Mac-address?

There are 2 procedures to restore the MAC-address, depending on the firmware version and the hardware revision of the Xport. The original Mac-address of the unit can be found on the Xport Label.
This FAQ will explain both procedures.

Please download the MAC_RECOVERY.zip file containing the required ROM-files and the xptmacrecove.exe tool from the link below:
http://ts.lantronix.com/faqs/1813/MAC_RECOVERY.zip

Xport-01/03/04 with firmware version 6.1.x.x up too 6.8.0.2:

1.     Use TFTP MAC Recovery Firmware (xpt03_6100_MacRecover.rom)

e.g.:      tftp -i 192.168.1.100 xpt03_6100_MacRecover.rom X5

where 192.168.1.100 is the IP-address of the Xport.

2.     xptmacrecover is the tool to run on the PC the arguments are as follows:

Open the commandline editor and go to the subdirectory where you stored the ROM-files and the xptmacrecove.exe tool. Run the following command:

xptmacrecover <xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx> <yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy> <File ID> <MM:MM:MM>

where:     xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx     the current IP-address of the unit
yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy     the desired new IP-address of the unit or may also be the original IP-address xxx.xxx.xxx
File ID     X5 for firmware versions 6.1 until 6.8.x.x
     mm:mm:mm     Last 6 digits of the MAC-address

e.g.: xptmacrecover <192.168.1.100 > <192.168.1.100 > <X5> <FF:FF:FF>

This will cause the Xport to reboot with the programmed MAC address.

3.     Load production firmware again.

Xport- Xport-01/03/04 with firmware version  up to 1.80

This is the same procedure as above, only now use in step 1 "xpt03_180_MacRecover.rom".

The File-ID for firmwareverions 1.8 and earlier is "X2"

Using Device Installer to load :

Step 1 in both procedures above can also performed by using the serial recovery option of Device Installer.

See the serial recovery procedure below:

To recover firmware:
I.     Start DeviceInstaller. If your PC has more than one network adapter, a message displays. Select an adapter and click OK.
II.     From the Tools menu, select Recover Firmware. The Serial Port Firmware Recovery window displays.
III.     For Port on PC, enter the COM port on the PC that is connected to the serial port of the Lantronix unit.
IV.     For Device Model, be sure the appropriate XPort device is shown (XPort-01/03/04/05).
V.     For Firmware File, click the Browse button and go to the location where the firmware file resides.

Select "xpt03_6100_MacRecover.rom" for Xport XPort-01/03/04/05 running firmware 6.x.x.x.
Select  "xpt03_180_MacRecover.rom" for Xport XPort-01/03/04 running firmware 1.8 or earlier versions.

Note: Make sure the XPort on which you are recovering firmware is connected to this selected port on your PC.

VI.     Click OK to download the file.
VII.     When prompted, reset the device. Status messages and a progress bar at the bottom of the screen show the progress of the file transfer. When the file transfer completes, the message "Successful, Click OK to Close" appears.
VIII.     Click the OK button to complete this procedure.

Continue with step 2

2.     xptmacrecover is the tool to run on the PC the arguments are as follows:
