RJ45 Serial Loopback Connector
RJ45 Serial Loopback Connector
How do I make a serial loopback connector for Lantronix products that have an RJ45 connector?
When looking at the RJ45 serial port socket with the notch for the locking
tab facing down the pins are numbered 1-8 left to right:

1) Take CAT 5 cable and cut approximately 4" off.
2) Strip the plastic from outside of the cable. This leaves you with 8 bare wires of various colors. It is not important which colors you choose, but choose 4 wires.
3) Place four wires in the shape of a "U" into the RJ45 connector to connect 1 to 8; 2 to 7; 3 to 6; 4 to 5
Your serial loopback connector will look like this when done:
|------| (1 TO 8)
||----|| (2 TO 7)
|||--||| (3 TO 6)
|||||||| (4 TO 5)
