What is the latest firmware for the PremierWave EN?

The current released version of firmware for the PremierWave EN is 8.1.0.0R9.

There are important steps related to updating, depending on the firmware version your unit is currently running.  Read through this FAQ carefully before proceeding.

IMPORTANT UPDATE NOTES.  READ THE FOLLOWING BEFORE PROCEEDING!

If your PremierWave EN is already running an 8.x firmware version, skip to Section III of this FAQ.

If your PremierWave EN is running a firmware version prior to 7.9.0.1R8, you must update to that version using Device Installer and the Firmware Recovery Method.  Start at Section I below.

If your PremierWave EN is already running 7.9.0.1R8, you can update using the methods described in the User Guide (HTTP, CLI, or FTP).  However, you must load the 8.0.0.0B1 interim upgrader, first, then the 8.1.0.0R9 firmware.  See Section II if you are already running 7.9.0.1R8.

Section I - Firmware version 7.9.0.1R8 downloads

Base Version:

This is the Base firmware with no Python support.

Base Version Plus Python:

This is the Base version with Python pre-installed.

Use one of the above firmware files to update the unit using Serial Recovery in Device Installer.  Note that a Firmware Recovery will write a new image that will overwrite any configuration.  Save the configuration prior to performing this step or be aware that you will have to reconfigure the unit.

1. Connect the PremierWave EN to a PC running Windows over a serial connection via a built-in Com Port or USB to serial adapter.  Note that since this is an embedded module, it will require mounting the EN on a development/evaluation board if the device onto which is it mounted does not include an RS-232 connection to the EN.
2. Start Device Installer.
3. Press F8.
4. Select the Com Port to which the EN is connected.
5. Select the PremierWave EN from the Device Model (choose the appropriate selection based on the version currently on the unit).
6. Check the "Erase All Flash" box.
7. Browse for and select the .rom file downloaded from the above links.
8. Click on OK.
9. Follow the instructions on the screen.

The load takes about 35-40 minutes.

Once the unit is running 7.9.0.1R8, proceed to Section II.

Section II - 8.0.0.0B1 Interim Loader

LOAD THIS INTERIM UPGRADER BEFORE YOU LOAD THE 8.0.0.0R12 FIRMWARE UPDATE

See the User Guide for update methods.  Also note that the Firmware Upgrade Note (see link below) was written for 8.0.0.0R12, but applies to 8.1.0.0R9, as well.

Interim upgrader 8.0.0.0B1 Base Version:

Use this version if you loaded or are already running the 7.9.0.1R8 Base firmware with no Python support.

Interim upgrader 8.0.0.0B1 Base Version Plus Python:

Use this version if you loaded or are already running the 7.9.0.1R8 Base version with Python pre-installed.

LOAD THE ABOVE INTERIM UPGRADER BEFORE LOADING THE FOLLOWING FIRMWARE UPDATE

Section III - Firmware version 8.1.0.0R9 Base Version:

Load this if you loaded or are already running the Base firmware with no Python support.

Firmware version 8.1.0.0R9 Base Version Plus Python:

Load this if you loaded or are already running the Base version with Python pre-installed.

Python Add-on to Base Version:

If you have a PremierWave EN running the 8.1.0.0R9 Base Version of firmware you can use the procedure in the Add-on Upgrade Note below to add Python.  Note that the Upgrade Note was written for 8.0.0.0R12, but applies to 8.1.0.0R9, as well.
