Default Username and default Password not working for devices
Why am I not able to login using the default password ? What is the new default password ?
A recent legislation by the State of California, in the United States, (SB 327) requires all connected devices to have unique device specific default password. Lantronix complied with this requirement in all it’s box devices using one of the following two changes :
For all external box devices except the E2XX series of Cellular routers, the default web manager, GUI, password is the last eight digits of the Device ID.
For E2XX series routers, all devices will have the same default password described in the manual; but users will be forced to change the admin and root passwords to a new password of their choice before allowing any configuration or access operation in the device.
This change is applicable only for standalone box devices and not the embedded products from Lantronix.
The device ID is usually available in the product label. The example below shows label from an SGX device and how to identify the Device ID.
In some devices with smaller foot print, due to space limitation, the Device ID is included in the QR code on the label in the device (not the box). You may use any QR code data reader application in a smart phone to read the data. For example the data read from QR code in an XDirect will look like the following string :
(V1)1(C1)7(P1)XDT2321002-01(R1)C12(D1)20W13(L1)THAILAND 02(S1)xxxxxxxxxxxx(S2)xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxXXXXXXXX(M1)xxxxxxxxxxxx(E1).
In the above example, the 32 digits after the marker “(S2)” is the Device ID of the device (shown as 32 x). The last 8 digits are the default Password to the device. The username continues to be the same as described in the user guide for your device.
For all devices other than E2xx cellular routers, this new default password scheme is applicable only for devices manufactured after 1 Jan 2020. Older devices will continue to have the old default password described in the user guide even if you are running newer firmware versions.
It is highly recommended by Lantronix to change the password as soon as you log into the device as a best practice.
