I would like to know how the SLC 8000 USB i/o cards support the USB console from different equipment makers. Different manufacturers use different usb drivers for the port so how does the SLC 8000 USB I/O card handle this?
The SLC8000 looks at the USB enumeration information sent by the connected USB device to determine which driver to use.
Lantronix developed the USB modules in close cooperation with Cisco, so, we know they work with the Cisco equipment loaned us for testing.
Cisco USB console ports use various USB-to-serial chipsets. The chip sets currently supported by the SLC 8000 are:
CP2303
FTDI
CDC ACM
CP210X
MCT U232
If suppliers use one of our supported chip sets their USB device should work with the USB ports on the SLC 8000 USB I/O card.
If you have problems with a specific USB device please let us know the make and model number of the USB device and run the 'diag usb' command from the CLI of the SLC 8000 and send us the results.
