Connecting the Ignition (IGN) line on the FOX3 or BOLERO40 series to the vehicle IGN

Is it mandatory to connect the Ignition (IGN) line on the FOX3 or BOLERO40 series to the vehicle ignition?

No, it is not mandatory.

However, most of the fleet applications want to calculate the driven distance from the Trip-Start to Trip-Stop. For such application, it's recommended to tie the IGN of the tracker to the vehicle IGN which makes the application easier.

Additionally, some customers want to set the tracker in sleep (hibernate) mode after a specific time from turning OFF the IGN, and turn it ON when the IGN is trurned ON.

If you don't want to use the IGN line on the tracker in such applications, you can use it as a digital input.
