How do I make a network crossover cable to use with my PC to a Lantronix product with an RJ45 ethernet port?

When looking at the RJ45 socket with the notch for the locking tab facing down the pins are numbered 1-8 left to right:

                                 [        ]
                                 [__    __]
                                    |__| 



1) Use a CAT5 cable and cut approximately 1/2" of the plastic off to expose the wires.



2) This leaves you with 8 bare wires of various colors.



3) It is not important which color you choose, but that you follow the same color from one number below on one end to the other end.

Purely Random Color Example:

1 --Green/White-- 3
2 --Green-- 6
3 --Orange/White-- 1
4 --Blue/White-- 4
5 --Blue-- 5
6 --Orange-- 2
7 --Brown/White-- 7
8 --Brown-- 8

The only wires that matter are the ones connecting pins 1, 2,3 and 6. The rest of them are not used by Ethernet.
