The Amount and Method of Isolation Used in the UDS1100

How much and what method of isolation is used in the UDS1100?

Our current documentation on the UDS1100 (online Data Sheet, online User Guide) lists the following information -

Isolation

• Designed with protection against transients and ESD for use under harsh environments.

Serial Port

15 kV ESD protection on RS232 and RS422/485 transceivers

Power Input

Up to non-repeated 600 W 10/100 use pulse protection against transient overvoltages

Ethernet Port

1500 VAC isolation shielded with shield connected to chassis ground for signal integrity and ESD protection

As for the method of isolation:

The serial port is NOT isolated on the UDS1100; it is referenced to the DC ground input. It has ESD discharge protection and is achieved via diode protection in the serial driver chip.

Power input uses a transient voltage suppressor via back to back diodes.

The Ethernet port uses a transformer for magnetic isolation (1500 VAC).

See "Isolation" near the bottom of the "Features and Specifications" tab.

The isolation is also listed near the bottom of Table 13-1. UDS1100 Technical Specifications, currently starting on page 74 of the UDS1100 User Guide, available here:
