The XPort 6.1.0.2 and higher firmware image is twice as large as the previous XPort firmware images released. The larger code requires users to have a new backup firmware image also stored in FLASH while downloading and programming a new version of operational code, in case the download fails. The increased code space allocation results in a one-time only reduction of a single web page (i.e. 64KB).
Because the files are larger the destination file codes have been changed for the three XPort products: from X1 to X4 for XPort-01; from X2 to X5 for XPort-03; and from X3 to X5 for XPort-485.
Upgrading to 6.x from 1.8
Network Upgrade
The pre-6.x firmware is not able to load a firmware image larger than 64 KB, so it must be loaded in a two-step process.
(Make sure the upgrade firmware file, firmware file & new Web Manager file are on the root of C:\)
Note1: Older products have only 6 Web partitions. Recent Web Managers (COB Files) require more than one partition, so they must be loaded into partition 1 or 2 on those products so there will be room for them.
Note2: When loading recent COB files a warning will display that the COB file is over 64K and will overwrite additional partitions. This is normal, just click "Yes" to proceed.
Note3: The web page in the lowest numbered partion will be loaded. Normally Lantronix puts it's web manager in a higher numbered partion to allow custom web pages to be installed in a lower partition. If you are not using custom web pages you can safely put the Lantronix web manager page in partition 1.
The XPort-01 process is as follows:
Example commands for firmware upgrade from a DOS command prompt type:
Example command for the new Web Manager upgrade from a DOS command prompt type:
C:\ tftp -i <ip address> put xpt01_webm_1602.cob WEB1
The XPort-03 process is as follows:
Example command for firmware upgrade from a DOS command prompt type:
Example command for the new Web Manager upgrade from a DOS command prompt type:
C:\ tftp -i <ip address> put xpt_webm_1602.cob WEB1
The XPort-485 process is as follows:
Example command for firmware upgrade from a DOS command prompt type:
Example command for the new Web Manager upgrade from a DOS command prompt type:
C:\ tftp -i <ip address> put xpt_webm_1301.cob WEB1
The XPort should be operational with new firmware.
Use the Advanced Recovery feature of DeviceInstaller 4.0.0.x and later as instructed in the XPort User Guide, available from http://www.lantronix.com/support/documentation.html#embds.
Upgrading from 6.1.0.2 and later
To reflect the change between pre-6.1.0.2 firmware and 6.1.0.2 or higher firmware, the TFTP destination files have been changed for XPort, XPort-03, and XPort485 from X1 to X4, X2 to X5, and X3 to X5, respectively.
