Use terminal emulation software (HyperTerminal, Teraterm, ...) on the serial port of the device server to enter the setup mode :

1. Connect a computer running a terminal emulation software to your device server serial port. The default serial port settings are 9600 baud, 8 bits, no parity, 1-stop bit, no-flow control.

2. Reset the unit, either by pushing the reset button, or cycling the unit's power (power off and back on). The self-test will begin.

3. You have one second to enter three lowercase x characters (xxx).

The easiest way to enter Setup Mode is to hold down the x key at the terminal emulation software while resetting the unit.

If you can enter Setup Mode:

If you can’t enter the Setup Mode it means that this device server has a problem. The firmware recovery procedure below should help you to recover the device server.

2. Bidirectional test

1. Connect a computer running terminal emulation software to your device server serial port. The default serial port settings are 9600 baud, 8 bits, no parity, 1-stop bit, no-flow control.

2. Start a 2nd terminal emulation window but this time open it on an IP socket, e.g. in HyperTerminal open a Winsock connection. The IP address is the IP of your device server and port number is 10001 by default.

3. Every character typed in one terminal emulation window should appear in the other terminal emulation window and vice versa. In other words, characters typed in the "serial" terminal will be displayed in the "IP socket" terminal and characters typed in the "IP socket" terminal will be displayed in the "serial" terminal.

If you can’t enter the Setup Mode or can’t achieve the above bidirectional test it means that this device server has a problem. The firmware recovery procedure in the next section should help you to recover the device server.
